What Can PPM Plumbing and PEX Do for Your Draper, Ut, Home?

Let’s address the elephant in the room: What is PEX? PEX is a type of tubing that is used in plumbing and other water supply systems. It’s a crosslinked polyethylene. This type of tubing has many advantages over other types of piping because of how durable and flexible it is.

Some homes, especially older homes, tend to have metal pipes, specifically galvanized pipes. Galvanized pipes came out long before copper piping, and because of that they are often in bad shape. In galvanized pipes, we often see signs of water damage because water, over long period of time, can eat away at the metal and therefore can cause sporadic leaks and more! Copper pipes, though much more durable with the ability to stand the tests of time, are significantly more expensive to buy and are much more complicated to install because they require special soldering equipment. Though they’re durable, they still can corrode if the water in your area is particularly acidic. If all that doesn’t bother you, then maybe the fact that copper can give your water a metallic taste will. Water that tastes like pennies? No thanks! Copper also isn’t very flexible. This might not sound like an issue but consider the conditions during winter. When water freezes, it expands. If you have water, or rather ice, that’s expanding inside your copper pipes that don’t flex, you might be looking at a busted pipe. That’s why we so highly recommend PEX and use it often. It means you’ll be getting a great deal and you might save a great deal in the future.
