Let’s face it, air conditioning is one of the greatest luxuries we
have today. Summer has become much more bearable with a cool home to escape
in. Yep, life is pretty great when the AC is running smoothly. Conversely,
life can be pretty miserable when the air conditioner has ceased to work
properly. Sleeping in a hot sweat is bad enough, but without a fully functional
air conditioner in the heat of summer, even watching TV can become extremely
uncomfortable. There are many things that can potentially go wrong with
your air conditioner, but here is a list of some of the more common problems
associated with air conditioning:
The Unit Will Not Turn On
This tends to happen when you attempt to turn on your air conditioner for
the first time of the year after potentially months of inactivity. There
are two primary reasons for your unit not turning on: improperly set or
defective thermostat, or the unit is not receiving power. Check your thermostat
to ensure that it’s set to cool. Some thermostats may have automatic
timers that create a delay. In that case, be sure to wait for the timer
to finish its cycle. Also be sure that the unit is receiving power and
that the breaker has not been tripped. If the unit still does not come
on after checking these causes then give us a call at PPM Plumbing to
come take a look!
Refrigerant is the chemical that cools the air coming out of your vents.
If the air coming out is not cool, it could be because the air filter
is too dirty and needs to be replaced OR because there is insufficient
refrigerant which is typically associated with a leak. If that is the
case be sure to give us a call to come repair the leak and replenish your
Frozen AC Unit
Some of the previously mentioned conditions can also lead to your unit
freezing. This is typically because there is not proper airflow, which
can be a result of a dirty air filter, broken fan, or a blocked air duct.
It is important to change your air filters regularly to prevent any stoppage
